I love these Trader Joe’s Mini Chicken Tacos. One thing I don’t exactly like is their way of designating them “No Gluten Ingredients Used.” To the paranoid side of me, this means that they don’t think there’s any gluten in there, but they aren’t testing and maybe don’t really know. Is that paranoid? I should [...]

Instead, it is about a non-food gluten-free item I fully endorse. Speedball inks, for block printing and other things, are gluten-free, and it says so on every tube of ink. When I first bought them, I thought that was a little silly. Why would something you're (hopefully) never going to put in your mouth advertise being gluten-free? Then I thought about it. And used it. I can't remember ever eating sweet potatoes before I moved to Seoul. But since living here, I've learned how much Koreans love sweet potatoes. This month's Daring Bakers' challenge was a Bakewell tart. This is a tart consisting of a shortbread crust, a layer of jam, and a almondy-custardy layer of frangipane. I love almondy things. Margo does too, and this was a good thing to make. Unfortunately it was not a good day to make anything, because it is like a jillion degrees. The day started as grey and unpromising as february.
